How green can we make air travel? Small, battery-powered planes are on the way. But building large, zero-emission airliners is a daunting challenge. The opening video of the Flying-V pulls the reader into the story, and Davide Monteleone’s beautiful photography of airplanes of all shapes and sizes adds to the storytelling.
For the 2021 Year in Pictures we chose to break the year into four categories — Covid, Climate, Conflict and Conservation. It was a unique way of telling the story of 2021, and we supplemented the amazing photos with graphics, audio and video.
In 2020 it was A World Gone Viral. National Geographic sent photographers to five countries to show how COVID-19 became a painful, shared experience around the globe. We chose to break the stories into five sections, showcasing the peach country with three photos supplemented with graphics and a gallery.
